The end of the year
is the time of summation and planning. Proper time to start new
things will only be in the new year, in January. So why am I starting
the blog right now? Well, it's certainly partly pure defiance, but
the reason also is that throughout the whole year I wanted to do it.
And if I rescheduled it for the next year and made it my New Year's
resolution, I'm afraid my contrariness would strike again. I'm
allergic to superstitions, horoscopes and all the witchcraft
connected with starting changes only on Mondays, the beginning of
the year or the first day of the
month. Besides, I am also a lazy, procrastinating potato,
which would probably not be helpful. The right thing to do – looking back
Now that I've already
presented my worst side, I would also like to do some things right,
so summing up – 2013 was a good year for my pole passion. I would
say, it was a year of trying and doing totally new things, the
majority of which turned out to be nice.
In March, I've become an
instructor of the studio which had me making my first aerial steps in
it, and which I've stayed loyal to. I've learned that teaching can
sometimes give more satisfaction than learning. I’ve discovered a
totally new feeling of being trusted and treated like an expert. It
felt a little embarrassing at first, but now it's a real pleasure.
In May, I went to
the National Pole Dance Championships – no, I wasn't performing,
just cleaning poles, but it was the first time I could watch any
competition live. It was unforgettable. Unfortunately, not only
because of the great performances of really talented young people but
also because of the struggle with reaching to the armpit of the world
where the prestigious event was held,
and because of a peculiar sense of propriety on part of the
organizers.
In July, I
participated in my first pole workshop ever, and it was with Marion
Crampe! The experience of being a student again and having such an
incredible master gave me such a boost that I went to a workshop
bender (I hope not to come back) and
ended up taking part in three more until the winter came.
In September, I decided to
try some kind of training different than pole. I have to admit, cross
fit defeated me. Maybe because of its level.
“Do you train
anything?” the reception guy asked.
“Well, yes, we
are,” we said, meaning pole dance.
“So the
intermediate level should be fine.”
It wasn't completely fine
by me. If it wasn't for my pole student who I was there with, I swear
I would cry like a baby. But after that, the feeling was great: the
pride that I succeeded (well, almost) despite the fact that it was so
tough, and the wonderful lightness of all my muscles that became all
soreness the day after. I promised to myself I would take another try
(maybe I'll eventually get into the swing of it), but not in the same
place and level.
Now, in December, I'm
starting my first blog. The idea came into my mind long time ago out
of a hunger for polish pole dance blogs, the really good ones, not
only on a national scale, many-sided, like Aerial Amy. It would be
too ambitious to aim for creating such a blog, but I thought it's
better to try and do anything than just sit and grumble.
The next thing right to do – setting goals and making plans for 2014
- Write on the blog at least once a month
- Share a self-made video on youtube every once in a while
- Devote every second of pole workout (excluding the time of preparing choreography to perform) to strength training and achieving dead lifts with all the different grips
- Dare to share at least one video of me freestyling
- Teach more dancing choreos for girls who want to learn them
- Take a training different than pole dance at least once
Well, I hope that my
plans,
since I wrote this, would be harder to ignore.
I wish you all strength
and courage to make your plans and dreams come true. Let all the
random events be to your advantage. I wish you also a positive
attitude and many reasons to smile sincerely. Not only because it's
the right thing to do.
